We are remembering Saeed Kazmi, a dear friend and valued employee at Lighthouse Solar. From the first day I met Saeed more than 10 years ago at a solar tour hosted by Pedernales Electric Coop, I was reminded that the work we've chosen to do relies on integrity, attention to detail, and fortitude. Saeed became a vital part of our company and brought these values to the many thousands of projects he helped design and engineer. On top of that, we were witness to his overcoming health challenges that defied belief. His professional and personal strengths remained consistent and his contributions will continue to resonate in the broader community that he helped foster while at LighthouseSolar.
Saeed Kazmi was a man of quiet strength, resilience, and profound impact. His life’s work—centered on education, philanthropy, and family—touched countless lives.
Born into tough socio-economic conditions in Pakistan, Saeed overcame immense challenges through the transformative power of education, becoming the top student in his school and opening doors to a brighter future. His belief in education inspired a lifelong mission to provide opportunities for children in Pakistan, where access to schooling often remains out of reach.
In the 1970s and 1980s, Saeed worked as a computer engineer at HP and AMD during Silicon Valley’s golden age. Despite his success, he stayed deeply connected to his roots, moving his family back to Pakistan in the 1990s to immerse them in their heritage.
Saeed’s philanthropic vision was extraordinary. He spearheaded solar-powered wells to provide clean drinking water, supported widows and small businesses through microfinancing, and focused on initiatives that empowered communities. Even in dangerous circumstances, his commitment never faltered.
His son, Ali, recalls Saeed’s love for the simple joys: the flavors of his mother’s roti and spinach curry, rooftop walks in Pakistan, and sharing extended family meals. Saeed passed on his passion for driving, inspiring Ali’s epic journey across 33 countries. He also loved to travel to Port Aransas with his family spending time with his sons and especially strolling the beach with his grandchildren.
In Austin, Saeed enjoyed bagels, World War II documentaries, and time with his six grandchildren, who were his pride and joy. Many remember him as a “silent hero,” a man who quietly transformed lives and left a legacy of hope, generosity, and love. Saeed Kazmi's memory will live on in the hearts of those he touched. He was a beacon of hope, innovation, and humanity, whose life exemplifies the power of one individual to make a lasting difference in the world.
One of Saeed's favorite charities was providing clean drinking water to the people of Pakistan. If you'd like to donate you can make a contribution in his honor below.
